The objective of The Mystery Schools is to illuminate individual consciousness by revitalizing ancient teachings that are inscribed in the hearts of all people. In the Mystery School, each person is on his or her own sacred mission to become aware of and be illuminated by, their true selves which is Soul. Members of the Mystery School are taught how to create a conscious awareness of the spiritual realms.
One of the first known Mystery Schools was the Egyptian Hermetic Mystery School, established by Hermes Trismegistus in about 4000 BC. Some of the principles taught were: Everything created in this physical universe has its origin at a higher state of consciousness; The Principle of Vibration is that nothing rests, everything vibrates; The Principle of Polarity is that everything is dual, has two poles or opposites, has light and dark, good and evil; The Principle of Cause and Effect states that for each action there is an equal reaction. "As you sow, so shall you reap."
”The ancient Greek city of Gadara was built on top of an even more ancient city called Joutthal in which the Mystery School of Onnas was established around 2350 BC. According to Onnas teachings, the Merkaba is the divine light used by the Masters to connect with and reach those in tune with the higher realms. The Mer-Ka-Ba is the vehicle of Light mentioned in the Bible by Ezekiel “Mer” means Light, “Ka” means Spirit, and “Ba” means body.
The Essenic Mystery School was teaching astrology, numerology, and reincarnation, plus other subjects. The school was started at Mount Carmel around 1380 BC by a Master called “Japhael” who was believed to be from Scotland. Mount Cannel was the center of an ancient mystic tradition which established the seed of what became known as the Essene Brotherhood and the communities that then existed in the Hebrew, Roman and Greek cultures. This brotherhood would bring forth people who would change the face of the world and the course of history. Indeed, almost all of the principle founders of what would later be called Christianity were Essenes – St. Ann, Mary and Joseph, Jesus, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, John the Evangelist etc. They had knowledge of the hidden mysteries of nature and the supernatural unknown to other men. They considered themselves to be a group of people at the center of all people, because everyone could become part of it, as soon as they had progressed to appropriate higher levels. They were supported in their efforts by highly evolved beings who directed the brotherhood. They were true Saints and Masters of Wisdom. The Living Spiritual Master and Teacher of the Essenes of Jesus’ time was named Zadok.
Down through the ages there have always been groups who were poised to share the highest secrets of humanity and the higher worlds with those wanting to receive them. “When the student is ready the Master will come.” The Way of Truth” is such a school that exists today. This school was conceived by Sehaji Masters from this universe and beyond. The role of the Sehaji Masters is to assist their students in attaining Self-Realization leading to God-Realization. Students of paths like Kirpal Singh and Eckankar have known them as the Vairagi Masters. Among those who have served In the Sehaji Order are Pamenides, Aristotle, Shams of Tabriz, Rumi, Rebazar Tarz, Plato and Saint Francis of Assisi.
In The Way of Truth, we speak of this state of consciousness as God-Realization, In the Sikh tradition; God-Absorption might be a more accurate translation. The experience of it is the same. Vairag, or detachment, on the other hand, is the state that precedes Sehaji. This is an important distinction. Detachment occurs as the result of an inner movement away from the worldly illusion (Maya), but detachment is not the ultimate goal. God-Realization is an expansion to the Creator, to Cosmic Consciousness, to our ultimate destination.
